MEMORANDUM FOR CORRESPONDENTS April 15, 1998

The Department of Defense announced today seven contract awards for Defense Medical Information Management/Systems Integration, Design, Development, Operations, Maintenance Services II (D/SIDDOMS II), Lot III for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, Tricare Management Activity. The multiple indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity awards made today could have a potential total value after five years of up to, but not exceeding, $2.5 billion for all services under the D/SIDDOMS II, Lot III effort.

The D/SIDDOMS II contracts will support existing information management and information technology services deployed worldwide which support the Military Health System (MHS) delivery of health care to the military and other eligible beneficiaries. These awards will provide a wide range of the technical infrastructure essential to achieving the objectives of the MHS, as well as to provide systems, design, development, implementation and operation services. The contracts will also provide a vehicle for remote sites worldwide to obtain system support to assist in the daily operations at military medical facilities.

Contract awards for Lot III have been made to:

* BDM Internation Inc., McLean, Va.; * Computer Science Corp., Falls Church, Va. * Litton/PRC, Reston, Va. * Science Application International Corp., Falls Church, Va. * Electronic Data Systems, Herndon, Va. * IBM Global Government Industry, Bethesda, Md. * American Management System, Fairfax, Va.

The OSD (Health Affairs) Tricare Management Activity has a continuing requirement for information technology services to support the design, development, deployment, operations and maintenance of automated information systems for the MHS.

There are currently more than fifty automated information systems operating in the MHS. These systems greatly enhance the delivery of health care to all eligible beneficiaries during peacetime and wartime. The primary agency programs that will benefit from D/SIDDOMS II are the migration systems that are currently in the development stages. These migration systems combine the functions of multiple systems and programs into a single composite system that is more efficient and effective.
